The NPR program, Invisibilia did a show on July 15, 2016 called "Flip the Script". In the episode they explore noncomplimentary behavior, were hostile behavior is diffused with warmth and love.

One specific case in Aarhus, Denmark the police department countered the outflux of Muslims to Syria who had become radicalized in Denmark with compassion. The program became known as "hug a terrorist", or the "Aarhus Model".
"As they see it, coming down hard on young, radicalized Muslims will only make them angrier and more of a danger to society. Helping them is the only chance to keep an eye on them and also to keep the peace in their town."

I think this would be a great conversation with students and ya'll exploring the causal loops of radicalization, racism, escalating violence, fear, empathy, and compassion.
