Hi Folks,

The attached below is for those attending the Scottish 6 in general, and for the WOC arena helpers team in particular. I have just sent in a list of 23 helpers (see attachment above) and you should get future updates emailed to you or your family directly rather than via me. Further volunteers are welcome (ideally via me) but you will note that we are one of 3 teams involved at Darnaway so you should not be overworked. Please check the list above   for errors, omissions or to discover whether someone has yet to tell you that you've 'volunteered'. Not me guv...honest! If you don't speak 'EXCEL' let me know.

Regards

Tony Wagg

WOC 2015 Event Team Update

January 2015

New Year Greetings!

Dear Tony,

The Volunteer organising team wish all our volunteers and interested supporters a Happy New Year. Each newsletter from now on will contain important practical information that affects you directly, so do read on.

Latest News - we have a new event venue!

We've just heard that the World Championships' Event Centre, and registration for the Scottish 6 Days, will now be based at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness - on the banks of the River Ness and with easy pedestrian access to the city centre.

It has also been agreed that a campsite will be created at Bught Park, a short stroll away from the new Event Centre.

You can find more details on the WOC 2015 News page.

Don't let your fellow club members miss out...
If you've recently subscribed to these WOC updates, well done! We'll be keeping you in touch with what's happening and any action you need to take in the run-up to August. We'll be using this system to confirm volunteer roles and days, and to collect the all-important information needed for issuing everyone with a uniform and accreditation.
So if you know any other club members who think they're in the same team as you but haven't yet subscribed, please give them a nudge - we need to keep in touch with all of you!

Incidentally, if you're not involved in the sport of orienteering and want to find a club near you, have a look at the British Orienteering website!

Opportunities for Volunteers

We have some great new specific opportunities which will make the most of particular skills - have a look to see if one of them might be for you:

Accommodation Coordinator for Volunteers

Branding Team Leader

Model Race Team

Rest Day Team Members

And of course there's the full list of all current Vacancies for orienteers and Vacancies for anyone (no specific sporting experience required).

Homestay Accommodation for Volunteers

Our homestay appeal to local residents is in full swing, so if you need help with affordable accommodation (especially if you'll be arriving early), register your interest here.

Scottish 6 Days - practical information

Where practical around their responsibilities, we want to encourage everyone to take part in the 6 Days. Are you hoping to take part? If so, get your entry in early to benefit from cheaper entry fees, and read on to learn how this will fit in with your WOC volunteering.

The 6 Days organisers can offer the following arrangements:

Flexible starts: the 6 Day system will initially issue pre-entered orienteers with start times as normal, but on the days you are working a WOC shift you will automatically be given a suitable start. This will be marked on your race bib so you can fit your run around your WOC role.

Refunds: if your WOC role completely prevents you from taking part in a pre-entered 6 Days race, you may claim a refund subject to authorisation from your Team Leader.

Your
Team Leader should be able to answer any questions, and you can check the Scottish 6 Days website for general information.

WOC and the Glasgow Games

Finally, a bit of extra inspiration. We're delighted to have several WOC volunteers who were also involved with the Commonwealth Games, and we want to match the tremendous spirit and energy that was part of that event. When the Games Came to Glasgow on BBC iPlayer, should inspire us all. Be quick though - it's only available until the end of January!

Counting down...

Our next newsletter will be with you in February. Thank you for supporting our World Championships - we're glad to have you with us!
All the best,

Terry, Linda and David
