Webinar Speakers Announced: Fostering Partnerships and Collaborations across the Sequential Intercept Model (SIM)

April 30, 2020, 2:30-4:00 p.m. ET

Partnerships and collaboration are considered essential ingredients in establishing an effective continuum of services across the Sequential Intercept Model. SAMHSA’s GAINS Center presents a webinar discussion with practitioners who have established effective partnerships and collaboration across the intercepts to increase services for justice-involved individuals with mental and substance use disorders. Presenters will share the perspectives and strategies that have been critical to their success. Guidance on practical application will be explored through discussions of these innovative and replicable examples, which illustrate cross-sector partnerships between criminal justice agencies and behavioral health that foster information-sharing, enhanced buy-in from law enforcement to diversion services, effectively serving individuals with substance use disorders inside correctional settings, improving services for individuals experiencing homelessness, and enhancing community corrections.

Speakers:

  • Erin Srstka, M.S., M.Ed., Community Projects Director, University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine (Sioux Falls, South Dakota)
  • Wayne Young, M.B.A., LPC, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer, the Harris Center for Mental Health & IDD (Houston, Texas)
  • Kim Etherton, M.A., LIMHP, Director, Lancaster County Community Corrections (Lincoln, Nebraska)

Objectives:

  • Understand the critical aspects of partnership and collaboration that should be adopted to improve the provision and quality of services for justice-involved individuals with mental and substance use disorders.
  • Come away with a list of ways to enhance partnerships and collaboration across the Sequential Intercept Model.
  • Learn how partnerships and collaboration have fostered improvements in information-sharing, access to services, and engagement in treatment.
