ALCTS webinar: Don’t Tilt at Windmills, an Active Learning Approach to Teaching FRBR

Date: December 1, 2010

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 2pm Eastern, 1pm Central, noon Mountain, and 11am Pacific Time.

Description:  This presentation will describe in greater detail the active training methods for FRBR that engages the entire cataloging staff. The active process empowers library staff and the observations foreshadow the major issues that will be faced in implementing new tools. This training session is aimed at cataloging managers to help empower their staff with new tools, anticipate challenges in implementation, and build team morale.

Presenters:  James P. Ascher is an Assistant Professor and Rare Book Cataloger at the University of Colorado at Boulder since 2009, where he teaches book history and maintains bibliographical databases. He holds an MS in Mathematics in addition to his MLIS and has published on bibliographical methods in RBM--the premier journal in rare books and manuscripts studies.

Peter J. Rolla, Assistant Professor, Catalog Librarian, University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries. He has an MLIS from Simmons College and an M. Phil. in Spanish Language and Literature from Yale University
