There is a lot to be said for breaking the big deal model. Of course, you don't want to inconvenience your clientele, but publishers who will not negotiate need to lose some customers. Because they control all the alternatives to the titles your library must have, the only leverage you have is those "also included" titles.

 

I have not gone back to print, but I have kept some titles in print because it was the only alternative to site licenses that are priced unreasonably high. For example, Slacks quoted us online prices for 6 of their journals that were 10 times the print price! Our Nursing faculty was very excited about online, but when we explained the price differential, they were fine with print.
