Good suggestion. I have used its conservation services http://www.etheringtoncs.com/ some years ago before the merge. They did a good job although it was expensive.

The HF Group offers both binding and conservation services.  Their staff should be able to advise you about whether commercial library binding -- and if so, what type -- is appropriate for your "historical books." Their closest locations to you are in Greensboro, NC or North Manchester, IN.
