Oh, this pricing tactic really burns.   I have canceled databases for this reason.  ("Oh, we have been undercharging for the past several years and have to get caught up." Or "Oh, we've added a lot of content and value and need to raise the price accordingly.")   I doubt in the case of CQ Researcher that they will impose that big of an increase in consecutive years, but that's a big price increase to swallow even once.

I tell publishers that we cannot possibly budget for that kind of increase.  Sometimes they listen and make some kind of adjustment.  If not, I tell the pertinent faculty about the situation, and they usually understand.

Best of luck!

Subject: [SERIALST] Dramatic Price increase from CQ researcher?

Are there any other libraries experiencing a dramatic price increase from CQ researcher?  Our rates have increased by 50% this year.  The letter indicates that we have been undercharged and they are doing us a favor by capping the increase at 50%.  Does that mean they will increase it by another 50% next year?  Just wondering.
