Electronic Access and User Experience Librarian

RESPONSIBILITIES: Minnesota State University, Mankato Memorial Library seeks an innovative, service-oriented, and flexible individual to serve as Electronic Access and User Experience Librarian. This librarian is responsible for enhancing the user experience with electronic resources offered by the library.

·        Serves as a member of the Technical Services Team and is responsible for the successful management of access to electronic resources in the Library’s collections

o   Provide leadership in access management of OpenURL link resolvers (Serial Solutions), ERMS, A-Z title lists, troubleshooting access problems and user support

o   Provide training and support for library staff related to electronic access

o   Participate in LibGuides administration and library discovery tool (Summon) management

·        Serves on a cross departmental team to explore ways to enhance the user experience throughout the library

o   Participate in library wide assessment activities

o   Promote electronic resource usage to campus community in collaboration with other library groups

·        Leads a team that oversees tracking and management of usage statistics of electronic resources

·        Participates on license review team; identifies key license terms and enter license terms into ERM software

·        Provide reference service in a busy library commons setting

All library faculty serve on teams as a subject liaison to one or more disciplines/programs, with responsibility for collection development, library instruction sessions and the development of class and subject guides; share in weekend reference responsibilities and provide introductory library instruction sessions; contribute to Library Services Department committees/activities; and may participate in university governance through membership on committees and task forces. 

Required Qualifications

·        MLS (or related Master’s Degree) from ALA-accredited program (degree requirements completed by August 18, 2014)

·        Experience with managing Electronic Resources and/or troubleshooting resource access

Preferred Qualifications

·        Second subject Master’s degree (required within three years for tenure)

·        2 or more years of post-MLS academic library experience

·        Experience or coursework with quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies that can be applied to improving and developing user focused services

·        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong service orientation

·        Experience with:

o   Providing reference and instruction services in an academic library

o   Licensing library resources

o   Collection development

o   Developing class and subject guides, such as LibGuides

·        Demonstrated

o   Project management skills

o   Ability to work in a team environment that encourages personnel to work across departments

o   Ability to engage in scholarly and professional development activities at the level necessary to meet requirements for tenure and promotion

·        Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment
