After being unsuccessful to find a library that wanted our old microfiches, I contacted my local high school art teacher. He was happy to take our old microfiche. He is always looking for different materials to expose his students to, so that they can come up with creative ideas. One student made an umbrella and a vest out of microfiche!

The same companies that recycle the film from your local hospital will also recycle microform.  I've heard that some hospitals will let libraries throw in their microform (ours was unable to do this), but even if they won't take it, they can give you the name of the recycling company.

I hate to fill landfills with it!

Hi,

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do with JSTOR microfilm and microfiche that has been weeded besides recycling it?  Is there anyone on earth who would want it? :)

Thanks for posting this, Diane.  That is definitely something to consider.  I hate getting rid of volumes in good condition and being able to do nothing but recycle them.  I did click on that link, but when I click on "missing issue spreadseheet", it does not go anywhere.

Hi,

One thing I wanted to throw in while we’re discussing JSTOR weeding is that it would be very nice if you can take the time to identify any issues you may have (that you’re about to discard) that JSTOR could use to fill in their gaps. This is something I’ve been doing in the last few rounds of our weeding and we did ship a few volumes to JSTOR. Yes it’s on your time and your library’s dime, but if a lot of us contribute to the cause, we’re all helping each other out.
