Apart from usage, we also calculate cost per use, ILL cost if not subscribed, and provide perpetual access info if available.

We also look at database access and what the usage has been for that title in that resource.

We also review every year, but consult with faculty only on major changes or for journals affecting our major doctoral program.
Then I also note other titles we have on the same subject, including database access.

I keep a list of those dropped for database access in the past 10 years and confirm those yearly.

When looking at usage, we note what was ILL.
I also consult with our ILL person on how easily she can order a less-used title for the requests that might come in when we drop it.

Hi, Amanda.

For various reasons, we have done this to some extent every year.  We usually target the high cost, significant cost increase, and low use titles.  I create lists of the titles in question with costs and usage statistics.  I distribute them to our library faculty liaisons who communicate with the department faculty.  If there is a better way to do it, please let the list know.  I am always up for improving the way I do things.

Sincerely,

Subject: [SERIALST] reviewing journal subscriptions

Hello All,

I am working on a project to review journal subscriptions for each academic department.  What do you do?  What information do you provide to faculty?  Is this performed yearly or every couple years?

Thanks for your input!
Amanda
