At ECU, we have a rolodex of barcodes and corresponding item records – one for each current title. Students continuously ‘pick up’ used issues then scan the barcode however many times needed.

Hi Christina,

At Portland State, we create item records for each loose issue and barcode the loose issues. The barcodes are scanned as re-shelved for internal use. We also check-out periodical issues and bound volumes on limited loan so there are also standard loans collected as well.

This allows us to compile annual usage of print issues/journals.

I have been asked to gather usage statistics for current unbound issues which are on open shelves.  Does anyone have any good ideas for how this might be done?  We still have around 800 titles that have current issues in print.
