Hi, everyone.

For libraries that don't add LHRs, what do ILL staff do to check the holdings of other libraries?  Do they access the catalog at that library directly?  I know our holdings in OCLC are not up to date.  I have been working on them for years, but before I came, the maintenance on them was spotty.

Sincerely,

What’s better from the ILL perspective?  WAY out of date (over 10 years) LHRs where ILL would have to check the catalog anyway, or no LHRs at all?

Whenever I update holdings in our local ILS (Millennium), I also update our LHR in WorldCat through the Connexion browser.  If you don’t maintain LHRs then other libraries will not know your holdings to make ILL requests.  I worked 15 years in ILL, so I know how important LHRs are.  Not having LHRs mean receiving requests you cannot fill bringing your ILL fill rate down.

I’m on the other side of this issue because our ILL people really want that Holdings data in WorldCat.  So I do both.

Heck yeah.

I’m not interested in maintaining holdings data in two places (at least) — WorldCat AND our local ILS (Voyager). There are a few local edge cases where we do but otherwise, I delete LHRs and instruct my staff to delete them whenever they come across them.

Hi,

Are there any libraries out there that add and delete holdings on titles without adding LHR (local holdings records)?  Just curious.

Thank you,
