ALCTS webinar: Standardizing Serials: KBART & Project Transfer (part 1)

Date: Wednesday, May 15, 2019

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 AM Pacific, noon Mountain, 1 PM Central, and 2 PM Eastern time.

This webinar is the first part of a two part series “Standardizing Serials”.  Standardizing Serials is a two-part series that is meant for the librarian who is new to serials work or wishes for a refresher on the many standards that guide continuing resource licensing, discovery, and acquisitions.   Attendees will learn the basics of KBART, Project Transfer, COUNTER, SUSHI, and SERU from experts in the field. Beyond just explaining these standards, however, speakers Kristen Wilson, Athena Hoeppner and Kate Hill will demonstrate their own uses of these standards within their workflows.  Through this, the series will help participants gain a better understanding of how they can actually begin to implement standards use in their own libraries.

Description: The webinar will introduce common standards used by continuing resources librarians, with explanations and demonstrations by librarians who are standards experts. This session will emphasize standards that concern how librarians provide access to and keep track of electronic resources and continuing resources: KBART, Project Transfer, and OpenURL. Each standard will be described at a level for the non-expert, with a discussion of their background, purpose, and an overview of their basic components and function. Presenters will then demonstrate how these standards can be used in practice through case studies of how they were used in their own libraries and institutions.
