We recently weeded all of our microfilm, microfiche, and Ultrafiche. A small amount of it was taken by other libraries in our consortium, but the bulk of it we had to recycle. We worked with a company out of Imperial, Missouri, called Midwest Recycling Center. They took all of it, and charged us $1.00/lb. to recycle. They also took other a/v formats as well such as videocassettes, LPs, and filmstrips. We had worked with them before, so we knew what to expect this time around. They even hauled away all of our old equipment and storage cabinets at no charge.

Sincerely,

Has anyone recently weeded microfilm? Did you have success recycling, donating, or other?

I found a  useful guide from ALCTS, would but love feedback from others who have recently gone through this process themselves. What was easy, or at least not painful? Any restrictions or issues you ran into working with your campus facilities department when donating, discarding, recycling?
