Miami University Libraries seeks an innovative, forward-thinking, tech-savvy, and service-minded colleague for the role of Electronic Resources Librarian/Assistant Librarian in the Access & Borrow Department (A&B). The department combines technical services (acquisitions, cataloging, serials, e-resources, discovery) and access services (circulation, reserves, document delivery). The department is responsible for the acquisition, licensing, and cataloging or archival processing of library resources, and management of the library's cataloging and discovery systems (including Sierra, EBSCO Discovery Service, EZProxy, Ebsco ERM Essentials) as well as all aspects of access services.

  • Selects, evaluates, and works with library vendors; ensures oversight and management of collection fund expenditures, reports budget trends, creates and shares analytics and other reports that capture data needed for budget management and external reporting; takes lead in gathering and analyzing serials, e-book, database, other usage data, and related assessment.

  • Oversees the strategies, processes, and workflows of acquiring, paying for, describing, processing, and making resources discoverable; manages day-to-day activities related to the Libraries’ licensed e-resources throughout their life cycles; manages ongoing technical access to electronic resources and collaborates with other librarians and staff to maximize discovery of resources for patrons; works with Discovery Services Librarian and Systems Department to ensure resource and metadata integration into discovery services; troubleshoot e-resource access issues as needed, which may include communicating platform and database outages.

  • Stays abreast of new technology, national developments, and best practices in order to provide leadership for acquisitions, cataloging, and electronic resources management activities.

  • Assists in developing and maintaining an effective, collaborative, positive departmental environment; consults on selecting, training, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating library staff and communicating effectively within and across departments.

  • Manages activities relating to electronic resources, including setting and evaluating operational goals and staff performance, to make best use of resources, staff, technology, and services while recognizing synergy with other departments.

  • Maintains and enhance professional skills through regular and meaningful professional development activities; pursue an active career path contributing to the field of academic librarianship.

  • Contributes to ongoing integration of departmental staff across teams through training and supervision as applicable; public-facing support on an as-needed basis; and other duties as assigned.
