$2,942 - $3,882 per month

Under the general direction of the Catalog Librarian, the Serials Coordinator
will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Serials Unit and the Database
Management/Book Processing Unit by establishing work procedures, determining
unit priorities, identifying and implementing the most appropriate approach,
with flexibility and accountability; will have lead responsibilities for six
Library Assistants; identify training needs and conduct training as required;
participate in the interview and hiring process of new unit personnel; perform
difficult and complex cataloging of serial and periodical titles including
e-journals; catalog electronic resources such as CD-ROM and Internet
resources;
perform high-level problem solving with complex titles submitted by other
serials staff; serve as the resource person for serials and periodicals
cataloging practice and theory in the absence of the Catalog Librarian;
provide
high-level support and assistance to the Systems Librarian with profiling and
indexing of the OPAC database; oversee authority control in the OPAC database;
maintain assigned HEGIS (subject) areas; other duties as assigned. Minimum
Qualifications: Any combination of the sublisted experience and education that
provides the required knowledge and abilities may qualify:
EXPERIENCE EDUCATION
5 years library assistant experience No minimum requirement
OR 4 years library assistant experience AND 2 years/60 semester units
OR 3 years library assistant experience AND 4 years/120 semester units
Three years of past serials cataloging experience; working knowledge of OCLC.
Thorough knowledge of serials cataloging including relevant national
standards,
i.e., AACR2, LCRI, CONSER Editing Guide, CONSER Cataloging Manual, USMARC
Format, LC Subject Headings and LC Classification. Must possess strong
interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities;
initiative and vision, flexibility, and the ability to work independently;
ability to meet deadlines and maintain effective working relationships within
and outside the work group units. Desirable: Lead experience in an academic
library; experience with Innovative Interface, Inc. integrated library
automation system. NOTE: More than one position may be filled from this
recruitment; working days/hours may be changed based on operational needs.
