There may be "current awareness software" out there but I am not familiar
with it. However, numerous traditional publishers (e.g. Institute of
Physics) and several Web publishers (e.g. Medscape, Biomednet, SciCentral,
etc.) offer customized current awareness services to their subscribers.
Of course, you may be able to utilize the services of Uncover,
ContentsFirst (OCLC's FirstSearch), or Current Contents (ISI) and deliver
this information using a combination of traditional office/Internet
software (e.g. Word and email programs) depending on your choice of
delivery mechanisms. Frequently, this information is available on the
Internet, at least for those journals with a Web presence. You could then
transfer the tables of contents using office/Internet programs. Still
others simply scan the tables of contents from selected journals with
Adobe products, such as Adobe Capture, and post them on the Web. Check in
to the copyright issues, as the tables of contents from most journals are
copyright protected, I believe.

Subject: Current Awareness

My question may be very elementary to most of you so I ask for your
patience and hope you will help me about my problem.

My supervisor told me something about the 'Current Awareness'
Service/Software which we could use to alert our users of the most recent
articles about their area of specialization and she wants me to look into
it. Can somebody enlighten me as to what it is (is it a print subscription,
online, etc.) and where I can get more information about it? She said that
it will be better than photocopying TOC titles requested by our client.

Thank you very much for any help you can extend to me.

Regards,
