Serials Team Leader

Summary Description
Serials activities in the Pullen Library of Georgia State University are
being reorganized.  The library seeks a person with serials experience for
a faculty rank position (non-tenure track) to supervise serials receiving
and binding in the Acquisitions Department and serials cataloging in the
Catalog Department.  The position reports to the Head of the Acquisitions
Department and the Head of the Catalog Department.  There will be direct
supervision of three or four staff in the Serials Receiving and Serials
Cataloging units and indirect supervision of two to four additional staff.
This position will also have administrative responsibility for the
Acquisitions Department in the absence of the department head.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to, primary responsibility
for receiving and binding of serials; cataloging of serials, serial added
volumes and copies, and maintenance of related records. Revision,
training, and supervision for receiving, binding, and cataloging of
serials in all formats and all languages.  Preparation of training
materials for the team.  Developing new procedures and formulation of
standards of quality and quantity.  Participation in university and
professional activities including research and publication.

Qualifications
This position requires an ALA-accredited master=s degree in library
science plus two years experience working with serials in a library using
OCLC or RLIN; two years supervisory experience; computer skills.
PREFERRED:  Working in an integrated automated environment and strong
organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.  Demonstrated
interest in professional and research activities is important.

Library and University Environment
Georgia State University is an urban institution located in downtown
Atlanta with an enrollment of approximately 24,000 commuting students.

The William Russell Pullen Library houses over 1,200,000 volumes and
subscribes to more than 7,000 periodicals and is a 70% selective
depository for U.S. government publications.  Its growing Media Center has
holdings of approximately 11,000 audio, video, and multimedia materials.
The carefully selected collections are designed to serve the varied
research and instructional needs of the university community.  Library
services are supported by an Endeavor Voyager online catalog system called
GIL (GALILEO Interconnected Libraries) with integrated functions for
acquisitions, circulation, and serials control, as well as a library?wide
Novell LAN.  Automated reference services are supported by CD?ROM
subscriptions, online reference services from a variety of vendors, and
access to the World Wide Web.  The University System of Georgia has linked
together institutions into a statewide system known as GALILEO; providing
equal access to electronic resources and other materials for libraries
throughout the state. The library is a member of the Association of
Southeastern Research Libraries, the Southeastern Library Network
(SOLINET), and the Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education, an
active consortium of fourteen academic and research libraries serving
nineteen institutions.

Salary and Rank
$33,000 - $38,000 for twelve months commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Appointment at faculty rank, on a contract renewal basis.
