TITLE: Librarian (Librarian I), Assistant Head,
Acquisitions Department
LOCATION: Technical Services Division, McKeldin Library
CATEGORY: Exempt Staff, Full-Time (12 Month Appointment)
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Works closely with the department head
in the management of four clerical units: Serials,
Payments, Search/Receiving and Order and assists in
providing leadership and guidance to the clerical
supervisors heading these units.  Assists in monitoring
workflow and ensuring that appropriate procedures and
routines are followed.  Serves as a contact point and
resource for electronic licensing issues, which apply to a
growing and diverse array of locally acquired electronic
databases and electronic journals, as well as resources
acquired in consortium with other institutions of the
university system, the state of Maryland, and the
mid-Atlantic region.  Serves as a member of the
Acquisitions Management Team.  Serves as acting head of the
department in the absence of the Department Head.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited Master's degree in
Library and Information Science.
EXPERIENCE: Required: Three years of progressively
responsible professional experience; at least one year of
supervisory experience; at least two years experience in
acquisitions activities in a large university library;
extensive knowledge of acquisitions methods and procedures
for both serials and monographs; extensive knowledge of the
book and subscription trade required; and working knowledge
of the acquisition and licensing of electronic databases and
journals on behalf of individual institutions and consortia.

BENEFITS: 22 days annual leave and 3 personal days; 14 paid
holidays; 15 days sick leave.  Employer contributes to
health insurance and retirement (State pension or
TIAA-CREF), tuition remission.
