wow! i did get a good number of responses both private and public! i was
asked several times which system we use. we use sirsi's unicorn/workflows
and are on the 99.2.4 version. we have been with sirsi using the serials
module since early 1996. we have about 1300 titles under serials control.

it appears as if there are quite a few things that the serials module could
bring the user beyond the 599/latest issues note that we are using. at this
point, the only nicety the user is getting here is this note, however with a
little education both our users and staff could use the information in the
module to see historical receipt data, claiming histories and expected dates
for future issues. we simply use our module for check-in, displaying the
last three receipts and claiming. we do not add items to the holdings or
track payment/invoices or any of the other neat things we could do. i was a
little surprised to read that quite a few libraries use the fullest
potential of their serials control modules. a few folks use their
subscription vendor's software to receive and claim which i don't believe
has even been investigated here probably because of the number of vendors we
use.

quite a few folks had some fabulous insights and i'm glad to say that those
thoughts have been echoed by the higher-ups at sirsi who've called and asked
to speak to us in an effort to resolve some of our problems.

cheers,
