Re: Serials Retention and DRA Serials Module Ryan D. Parson 26 May 2000 20:04 UTC

Kerstin:

Standard operating procedure at our library is to enter the start date in
field #6 and the end date in field #7. Field #8 is the place for the
actual summary of holdings. For a title that we retain all issues we
would enter something like this:

6) Start Date: 01/01/1975
7) End Date: 12/31/9999

8) Summary Holdings:

V. 11 1975 - Present

For a title that we retain only one year of we would enter something
like this:

6) Start Date: 01/01/1980
7) End Date: 12/31/9999

8) Summary of Holdings:

Library Retains Current Year Only

When we run a holdings report "Library Retains Current Year Only" will
print for the holdings statement for that title.

We do not have a web opac version in DRA, perhaps we are using an
earlier version (ours was installed in 94). We are currently moving to
Triple-I because of various problems we have had with DRA. We have
found the holdings report to be useful for two things: 1. verifying our
holdings by printing a report and checking it with the shelves; and 2.
backing up our holdings records in paper-form for when we get off DRA.

I hope I have helped, please feel free to ask more.
