SERIALS COPY CATALOGER (Library Assistant 5), MIT Libraries, Serials and
Acquisitions Services

Catalog serials for which bibliographic records are available from the
OCLC on-line database and from other sources.  Will create and edit
bibliographic records to conform to national standards and MIT cataloging
and classification policies; participate in maintenance and contribution
of CONSER records; verify personal and corporate names, series, and
subject headings in manual and automated authority files; work half-time
off site on serials recon project; develop expertise in non-print serials
cataloging, especially e-serials; participate in department and Libraries
committee work as requested; and perform special assignments as required.
Will work under the direction of the Head, Serials Cataloging Section.

REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma or equivalent and 4.5 years direct/related
experience, preferably in the technical services area of research library.
Good organizational, decision making, and oral communication skills
essential. Experience with serial cataloging records or serials processing
highly desirable.  Experience with OCLC and familiarity with
microcomputers and Microsoft Windows highly desirable.  Reading knowledge
of one or more foreign languages desirable.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
$26,780 to $30,300; actual hiring salary will depend on qualifications.
