Do you have contact information for UCMP? You may want to obtain an access code -if you don't have one yet- to see first hand how the online updating is done. We recently obtained a complete holdings listing for our library from Serhold, compared the Serhold data with the data in our local system, and identified titles for which our holdings need to be updated. Currently, we are in the process of making about 200 updates. While I'm still disappointed that Serhold does not accept holdings data at the level which we use in our local system, the new Serhold updating procedure is a big improvement.
