Date: Tue, 05 Dec 2000 09:09:54 +0100 From: Sarah Kellman <skellman@SWETS.NL> Subject: Swets Blackwell becomes CrossRef's first subscription agent Affil iate PRESS RELEASE Lisse, 5 December 2000 > Swets Blackwell becomes CrossRef's first > subscription agent Affiliate > > Swets Blackwell announced today that they have joined the CrossRef > organisation as an Affiliate. CrossRef recently started > its Affiliate program to allow non-primary publishers to use the CrossRef system, > and Swets Blackwell is the first subscription agent to join. > > Affiliate status will enable Swets Blackwell to obtain Digital Object > Identifiers (DOIs) from CrossRef's metadata database for articles published by >CrossRef member publishers that are not included in SwetsnetNavigator, Swets Blackwell's > electronic journal service. By incorporating these DOIs into > SwetsnetNavigator's Tables of Contents and search results, users will be able to seamlessly > link to the corresponding full text at CrossRef member publishers' sites. Because Swets Blackwell's subscription > administration system is completely integrated with SwetsnetNavigator, links > to full text articles will only appear if users hold subscriptions to the > corresponding journals. > > Coming on the heels of joining the International DOI Foundation in October, > Swets Blackwell's agreement with CrossRef provides numerous opportunities to > benefit from this synergy. Yvonne Campfens, Director of Publisher Relations > & Marketing at Swets Blackwell, commented: "We are excited about this > additional opportunity for linking to full text from our SwetsnetNavigator > service. Using CrossRef will enable us to quickly increase the > number of links to publishers and titles in the service." > CrossRef is a collaborative reference linking service run by Publishers International Linking Association, Inc (PILA), a not-for-profit organisation formed by scholarly publishers. Membership is open to primary scholarly publishers while other organisations can become CrossRef Affiliates. CrossRef operates behind-the-scenes by maintaining a database of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and metadata and offering a DOI look up service to enable the creation of links to full text articles. CrossRef currently has 61 member publishers with more than 2 million articles from 3,200 journals in its database. For more information about CrossRef, visit www.crossref.org. >> Ed Pentz, Executive Director of CrossRef, added: "Scientists and researchers will benefit from more links to full text articles at publishers sites, so I'm very pleased that Swets Blackwell has become a CrossRef Affiliate. By using CrossRef, Affiliates can look up DOIs to create links to all CrossRef member publishers." > > Thousands of full-text titles from more than 75 publishers can be accessed > via SwetsnetNavigator. Due to the steady increase of electronic journal > titles available in the service, SwetsnetNavigator has seen a 50% growth in > searches over the last six months alone. The service receives 3.5 million > hits per month - 5,000-6,000 of which are unique logins per day - and has approximate reach to 13 million users. Further > information on the growing number of titles available can be found by > visiting www.swetsnetnavigator.com.
