We also subscribe to a number of the Elsevier "Trends" journals. I just
spoke with Elsevier and they informed me that we wouldn't receive the
2000
or 2001 "Library compendium" volumes. You're correct a quick look at
the
pricing for 2000 and for 2001 shows that the prices for these journals
are
not being reduced to compensate for this loss. In fact, our prices
increased in 2001 despite the fact that we won't be receiving a "Library
compendium" volume.

We subscribe to a number of the Elsevier "Trends" journals (Trends
in Neurosciences, Trends in Biochemical Sciences etc). The
institutional subscription prices for these journals are set at higher
levels than the personal subscription but this is offset by the
inclusion of an annual "Library Compendium" volume at the end of
the year. This is a bound volume containing all the past year's
issues.

We've just been notified by our subscription agents that the Library
Compendium volumes are ceasing publication after Dec 2000. A
quick look at the pricing for 2000 and for 2001 shows that the
prices for these journals are not being reduced to compensate for
this loss. It rather appears to be a sleight of hand price increase,
compounded by the lack of any advance information about the
change from the publisher.

I suppose one shouldn't be surprised, but it is disappointing to see
this kind of thing still.
