By the same rule, we couldn't change the > title from Industry Week to IndustryWeek (without space) when the serial > began referring to itself without the space. Unless I'm looking at an old copy of the RI, that RI is only referring to two specific situations involving initialisms, the first being when separating punctuation is added or deleted (LA vs. L.A.) and the second being when a *issuing body name* varies between full form and initialism (CIA vs. Central Intelligence Agency). Because the rule only refers to abbreviations and the RI only refers to these two specific situations involving initialisms, Industry Week to IW *is* a title change. For people who have access to the CONSER Cataloging Manual, this point is discussed in the CONSER Cataloging Manual 16.2.3: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Distinguish between acronyms or initialisms and abbreviations. Treat a change from an acronym or initialism to the full form (or vice versa) as a title change, but do not treat a change from the full form to an abbreviated form (or vice versa) as a title change, per AACR2 21.2A1. Shore) The new title would be Industryweek.com (choosing fuller form of title over the initialism "IW" as per 12.1B2; the size of the type makes no difference). I forgot to mention previously that "Industryweek.com" appeared as the title consistently throughout the issue -- in running title, etc. I did find LC precedents -- e.g., the title Income opportunities changing in June 2000 to Income opportunities.com. And you will find other LC records for titles (print, not electronic!) ending in ".com"; though I wish the publishers would drop this silly trend.
