We cancel our paper subscriptions once we get the comparable online
version.
Also, index use is not counted as part of the periodicals collection but
rather
the reference collection.

Our library is being cautious by not eliminating all paper index
subscriptions, although I can see the day when it would not make sense
to
have both online and paper indexes. We include indexes as part of our
reference collection.

Hi,

Our College is a two-year community college with a
small library budget. Currently we subscribe to the online
periodical databases EBSCOHost (indexes and some full text).
We are considering to cancel subscriptions to the
printed periodical indexes to save about $2000.00 since
they are used infrequently. Is it too drastic? Has your
library already taken the printed periodical indexes out
of the collection? Do you have any opinions or thoughts
regarding this matter?

By the way, do you consider printed periodical indexes as
part of the periodical collection, or part of the reference
collection when you do the collection statistics?

Thanks

Pauline Smith
