PROFESSIONAL VACANCY

Head of Serial Records Division in Widener Library
Harvard College Library

Reporting to the Head of Access Services, the Head of Serial Records
Division is responsible for the supervision and workflow management of
the Serial Records Division. Supervises appointed staff of 12 in all
Division functions including receipts and payments for periodicals,
monograph series and microforms and government documents. Establishes
performance guidelines and evaluates staff performance. Participates in
policy development and is responsible for implementation of policies and
procedures. Compiles monthly and annual statistics and writes Division's
annual report. Consults with internal and external contacts to clarify
and resolve problems and discrepancies. Participates in Access Services
Management Team planning initiatives and projects. Participates in
professional activities locally and nationally and represents division
within and outside Harvard. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing
related duties as required.

Widener Library houses the central research collections for the
humanities and social sciences. The Library is a unit of the Harvard
College Library, which is administratively a part of the Faculty of Arts
and Sciences. The Access Services Department is composted of five
divisions with a staff of approximately 55 appointed FTE and a large
student and casual staff. The Department supports large-scale production
with a highly automated environment.

Qualifications:  An ALA accredited MLS or equivalent and reading
knowledge of one or more Western European languages is required.  Two
years' professional experience with demonstrated supervisory success
required.  Superior analytical, organizational, written and oral
communication, and interpersonal skills required.  Serials, acquisitions,
or collection development experience in online environment, preferably in
large research library, with thorough knowledge of current standards and
trends is required. Eagerness to experiment with and implement new
technologies, familiarity with NOTIS highly desirable. Experience
migrating to a integrated library system preferable.

Compensation:  Harvard University offers a competitive program of
benefits.  Appointment salary is dependent on qualifications and
experience.
