ASSOCIATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN (Management Position)
Position No.: 01-030

California State University, Hayward is a state-supported institution
located in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. The Library has a
budget of $3.7 million, a collection of  over 1.7 million items,
including over 900,000 volumes, microforms, and media resources, and a
39-member faculty and staff.  The Library is a partial depository of
U.S. federal and state government documents.

Responsibilities:

The Associate University Librarian assists the University Librarian in
library operations, facilities planning, assessment activities, and
personnel matters; provides leadership, planning, and coordination of
Technical Services (Acquisitions, Bibliographic Control and Physical
Processing); collaborates with a satellite campus library in setting and
accomplishing short- and long-term goals and objectives; serves as a
member of the Library Coordinators Group; serves as Acting University
Librarian in the absence of the University Librarian; and represents the
Library on behalf of the University Librarian as needed.  The Associate
University Librarian has primary operational responsibility for human
resources administration for non-faculty library employees including
position reviews, performance appraisals, and recruitment; facilities
administration to ensure a safe and pleasant environment that supports
work and study. Positions reporting directly to the Associate University
Librarian include the Acquisitions Coordinator and the Bibliographic
Control Coordinator.

Qualifications: Required:  ALA-accredited MLS degree.  A strong record
(6 to 8 years of progressively more responsible experience) of
leadership and accomplishment in management in an academic library,
including a minimum of 3 to 5 years supervisory and administrative
responsibilities in Technical Services.  Demonstrated skills in
supervision, organization, and planning.  A record of successful
experience in at least one major technical services function and an
understanding of current issues in technical services.  Demonstrated
accomplishments and leadership in the innovative uses of technology;
effective oral and written communication skills; experience in
collaborative and team work situations; ability to view issues from a
library-wide perspective and to contribute effectively to collaborative
projects within and outside the library; active involvement in
professional development activities with a record of contributions and
achievements in the profession. Preferred: An additional advanced
degree; proposal writing experience and experience working in a
collective bargaining and academic governance environment.

SALARY: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
