Dear Friends:

Mr. Xu Wenbo, President of the China Society of Library Science (CSLS)
cordially invites you to attend the 2001 CSLS Annual Conference to be
held in Chengdu, the Capital of Sichuan Province, from September 24-28,
2001.  Sichuan is situated in Mid-West China on the upper reaches of the
Yangtze River in a subtropical zone.  It has enjoyed the reputation of
being known as the "Tianfu Kingdom" since ancient times.  Sichuan is
rich in tourism resources.  Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong are scenic places
known worldwide as natural heritage sites.

The theme of the CSLS Annual Conference is: "The Strategy of Sustainable
Development for Libraries in the 21st Century."  You are welcome to
submit a paper (not mandatory).  The registration fee for CSLS members
is US$150 ea. and for non-CSLS members is US$180 ea.  The registration
fee covers Conference program and one day sightseeing to Dujiangyan (one
of the greatest dams and hydraulic engineering, irrigation and water
conversation project built in China more than 2,200 years ago) or to the
Big Buddha in Lo Shan.  CSLS will assist you with registration, local
travel and hotel reservations at the Golden Bulls Hotel at the rate of
US$ 40 per day.

CSLS will also arrange the following Pre-Conference Tour for Lhasa,
Tibet (Dates to be determined, probably around Sept. 19-23) and
Post-Conference Tours, Sept. 29-Oct. 2, if a tour has ten (10) or more
people signed up:

1.  Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong Tour (4 days by bus) at US$180 per person
(Post Conference Tour); or
2.  Tibet Lhasa Tour (4 days by air) at US$492 per person (Preconference
Tour)

The above quoted tour prices (for 10 or more people) include the
following charges:  meals, transportation, guide service, lodging and
entrance tickets, etc.

Please send the topic of your paper and an abstract (100 words or less)
to Sally Tseng by July 20, 2001.  Paper (15 minutes) 5-8 pages double
spacing) due on August 20, 2001.  For more information and registration
