Mann Library, Cornell University Library Cornell University's Albert R. Mann Library invites applications for the position of Metadata Librarian. The Library is seeking an energetic, innovative, and dedicated individual to join the Technical Services team. Albert R. Mann Library provides innovative information services for the 21st century and has achieved national renown for its digital library initiatives. (http://www.mannlib.cornell.edu) Mann Library's collection of agricultural, life sciences and related social sciences materials serves the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the College of Human Ecology, and the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell. Mann Library is considered to be the premier agricultural and life science library within an academic institution in the United States and has won several national awards. Our principal user population numbers almost 10,000 and includes undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, researchers, and staff. Mann Library is the second largest of 19 libraries that together constitute the Cornell University Library. Responsibilities: Responsible for facilitating access to serials and electronic publications through cataloging and the application of metadata. Evaluates and analyzes models for organizing networked information and helps devise and implement solutions. Is responsible for providing recommendations on the types of metadata required for effective access to electronic publications, tracking developments on metadata standards, and facilitating access to resources through original cataloging for a variety of formats (including the creation of both bibliographic and authority records). Serves as a resource for a variety of serials related questions to staff throughout Technical Services. Actively participates in the library's research and development efforts and in local and national discussions relating to providing access, retrieval, and management of resources regardless of format. Qualifications: Required: ALA accredited MLS or equivalent; demonstrated interest in the issues and standards related to serials, metadata, cataloging, and information retrieval. Excellent communication and analytical skills, including the ability to work within a team setting. Solid facility with personal computers, information retrieval software, and network navigation tools. Interest in innovation and professional development. Desired: previous cataloging experience, prior professional experience in an academic or special library; working knowledge of one or more foreign languages, and a background or interest in agriculture, the life sciences, or related social sciences.
