Radiology: Supplement to v. 215 June 2000 -- John Lucas Stephen D. Clark 12 Jun 2001 19:38 UTC
-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Radiology: Supplement to v. 215 June 2000 Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 14:20:24 -0500 From: John Lucas <jlucas@rowland.umsmed.edu> Posted to BacMed and Serialist I received this e-mail through our reference librarian who subscribes to MedLib. I have not yet seen this on these lists. After reading this message, I also contacted ACR and after talking with (Publications/Sales; CD-ROMS, Books and Other Publications) eventually found that they are selling it for $ 160.00 for non members with the CD-ROM Version for non-members at $ 40.00 This is OVER 1500 PAGES. http://www.acr.org/f You can try and purchase it OR you might contact one of your Faculty/Staff Physicians who are members and ask them if they would like to donate their copy to the library as a permanent archive. (a donation plate inside would look great to them) Or if they don't want to give it up, ask one to tape a note to the volume to send to the library when no longer wanted. ORIGINAL MESSAGE = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Folks, I think this is kind of strange. I received an interlibrary loan for an article cited as below: "Radiology. 215 Suppl:761-4, 2000 Jun." for the "ACR Appropriateness Criteria". I didn't see it with my issues so I thought I might have missed it somehow so I double-checked my serials software--no, I hadn't received it. So, I went online to the journal web site and didn't see it listed there. I double-checked Medline which still showed it. So I called the Radiological Society of North America to ask about this. They say this was something that ACR gave them to mail out to the ACR members so I wouldn't receive it with my subscription. I asked how I would get a copy since Medline was showing it as a supplement and was told I had to contact ACR since it wasn't really a part of my Radiology subscription and that is why it didn't appear in the electronic version of the journal. I explained that I serve radiologists on staff and needed it since it was shown as part of the subscription. She was polite but no help at all. I then went on the ACR web site (which is great by the way) where I was able to find the Appropriateness Criteria and was able to print out the few pages to fill the ILL. BUT...since when is this a supplement? How am I going to explain now and for the next 20 years that this "supplement" isn't really a supplement? I'm going to see if I can see if I can get a copy of this from ACR or otherwise I'll have to try to figure out how to include this with my Radiology issues since I know I'll get asked for it again and again. AND, how about when it changes and someone in the future, long after it is replaced on the website, asks for this "supplement" when they want to compare the old criteria with the new--a very likely question to come up. How have the rest of you handled this or did you by chance get a copy of this with Radiology and I missed it somehow?
