ELECTRONIC ACCESS/CATALOGING LIBRARIAN, Minnesota State University,
Mankato. Tenure-track, faculty position, Assistant Professor rank.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership and technical expertise for
defining
and providing effective access to the library's electronic serials.
Performs original and complex copy cataloging of serials (print and
electronic) and monographs, assignment of classification and subject
headings, and resolution of serial-related cataloging problems. Works
cooperatively across library units to manage initiatives that provide
access to these resources for the university community. Assists in the
instruction of these resources to university faculty and staff.
Additional
responsibilities include assisting with other access issues related to
online journals such as gathering usage statistics, monitoring license
agreements, providing links between various access systems, and
developing
and maintaining web pages related to these resources.  Faculty
librarians
share in collection development work with academic departments, in
weekend
reference rotation, and in university governance through membership on
committees and task forces.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from ALA accredited program; second Masters
required for tenure. Recent experience or coursework in an automated
cataloging environment and with a major bibliographic utility, such as
OCLC. Knowledge of AACR2r, LCSH, LCC, and MARC21 formats. Demonstrated
knowledge of emerging metadata standards (e.g. Dublin Core, XML) and
initiatives to enhance access to electronic resources (e.g. OCLC CORC,
web
page development, products like SerialsSolutions). Good interpersonal
and
communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and
collaboratively. Ability to engage in scholarly and professional
development activities at the level necessary to meet requirements for
tenure and promotion.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS: Academic library experience in cataloging and in
management of electronic serials. Second subject master's degree
(required
for tenure). Experience with Ex Libris ALEPH 500 or system migration.
Public service experience including reference and instruction.
Experience
in collection development. Working knowledge of one or more foreign
languages. Supervisory experience.

Salary range: $38,286 - $46,271, depending on qualifications for 9-month
academic year. Additional compensation for summer work may be available.
