I'm sure that your ILS would have such a device or would be compatible for
use with one of the scanners which is independently manufactured. We're
beginning such a project at Nova, and our ILS (Innovative) has barcode
scanners for inventory and 'portable' use counting which we're using in
conjunction with a portable computer so we can 'stick and scan' in the
stacks (the data is then downloaded into the system after a bout of scanning
is done). I would suggest asking your systems librarian.

Is anyone on the list familiar with a company that manufactures portable
scanners for barcoding purposes? I don't know if something even exists? how
it would work? cost? My library is in the process of a serials recon project
and it will be an enormous task to physically remove volumes from shelve,
carry to Tech Services, barcode and return to shelves. Any thoughts or
suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
