POSITION:  SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN (New Position)

The Jack Tarver Library of Mercer University is seeking an energetic and
talented librarian to provide leadership in library computing technology
applications for existing services and new initiatives. This individual
is a key participant in a learning centered library committed to the
successful blending of high quality personal services, access to
resources, and information technology support of academic curricula and
vocational preparation.  The Systems Librarian will provide technology
support and help explore new projects such as the development of an
Information Commons area and other technologies for library services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Systems Librarian is responsible for planning,
implementing, and evaluating library technology applications, including
the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. library system, library network, and
software and hardware support.   This individual will coordinate
technology issues for the Jack Tarver Library in Macon and the Monroe F.
Swilley, Jr. Library in Atlanta and supervise 1 FTE technician. The
position reports to the Dean of University Libraries and serves as a
member of the Management Team and Tarver Advisory Group.

QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA accredited MLS/MLIS; at least two years of
information technology experience in an academic environment;
demonstrated expertise with integrated library systems, preferably
Innovative Interfaces; working knowledge of Windows operating system in
an NT and Unix environment, office application software, web server
software.  Ability to configure network servers and routers, and to
implement and manage network security.  Ability to establish goals and
priorities and to work with other units in meeting mutual goals; strong
problem solving skills, including flexibility, creativity, and
initiative; ability to effectively communicate technical issues to
colleagues, library patrons, and vendors, and to work in a collaborative
environment; excellent oral and written skills.

The Tarver Library in Macon, Georgia, offers strong collections of print
and electronic resources, including GALILEO
(http://www.galileo.usg.edu/) and a talented staff of 30 serving 175
faculty and 4,000 students in the College of Liberal Arts, Stetson
School of Business and Economics, School of Engineering, and the Tift
College of Education.  Current projects include development of an
Information Commons area in partnership with Academic Computing,
expansion of an interactive research skills instruction program,
wireless capabilities, continued implementation of the III Millennium
system; and an evolving library liaison program.  The Swilley Library in
Atlanta serves primarily graduate programs in business, education,
pharmacy, and theology, and both graduate and undergraduate programs in
