This is a full-time continuing appointment, reporting to the Director of Bibliographic Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership of staff in a team environment and the supervision of workflow within the serials/electronic resources/authorities section of Bibliographic Services. The incumbent will lead a team of 8-10 library assistants, and may also direct the work of student assistants. An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program is required, as is a minimum of three years increasingly responsible academic library experience, including supervisory or team leadership responsibilities. Substantial experience in one or more of the following areas is required: - cataloguing of serials and electronic resources - cataloguing of government publications - authority work The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in MARC formats, AACR2, LC classification and subject headings, and CODOC classification; knowledge of cataloguing and authority control in an online environment; knowledge of emerging trends in cataloguing and in library and information technologies. A strong commitment to providing electronic access to a wide variety of resources is required, as is demonstrated knowledge of supervisory, management, and leadership practices, and evidence of potential to lead a team in a dynamic, changing environment. The successful applicant will be highly motivated and self-directed, and have a demonstrated ability to work independently and collegially. Strong oral, written communication and interpersonal skills are required to work successfully with staff, students, and faculty in a variety of situations. This position has a twelve month probationary period. Librarians are represented by the McMaster University Faculty Association. Appointment will be made at Librarian Level 3 with an annual salary floor of $44,757. Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
