Assistant Editor, PAIS Archive REQUISITION: #3800-R00900-15 DIVISION: Cooperative Discovery Services DEPARTMENT: Public Affairs Information Service (PAIS) LOCATION: New York, NY--Midtown The primary responsibilities of the assistant editor for the PAIS Archive project will be to serve as the project manager for the PAIS Archive project under the direction of the executive director. This position will work with Digital Preservation Resources staff in the digital conversion of the 1915 - 1975 editions of PAIS Bulletin to machine-readable format utilizing the Olive Software technology (phase one). Tasks involved during phase one will include trafficking the completed works, responding to inquiries from DPR, working with DPR to document the technical conversion specifications through final conversion of the printed indexes to the new PAIS Archive database. The position will be responsible for documenting technical specifications for the initial conversion, the PAIS Archive database structure, and the FS adaptation. The position will also liaise with designated OCLC technical staff re: adaptation of the database to the FirstSearch format. During phase 2 of the project, the assistant editor will work with the PAIS editor to update the vocabulary of the PAIS Archive database to current PAIS subject terminology. REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in library or information science. Experience working with bibliographic databases. Knowledge of and experience with the organization and structure of subject indexes and subject classification schemes. Ability to write clearly concisely in English. Detail orientation and ability to concentrate. Familiarity with descriptive cataloging, a plus. Some experience in database construction, a plus.
