Allison,

In the mid to late 1990's, the library where I was working at the time
switched from our previous vendor to Ebsco for approximately 3500
periodicals. At that time, Ebsco supplied scanable barcodes to help us
update our order and checkin records: change the vendor code, enter Ebsco's
title number, date of transfer, etc. They also sent barcodes with our
annual renewal invoices to record invoice number, vol./date and price of
each subscription. These barcodes greatly reduced staff time in updating
our records and more accurate than mannually typing in this information.

If you woild like more information, please feel free to contact me offlist.

When I was at the University of Kentucky, we used EBScan to get the EBSCO
title numbers and order unit codes into our purchase orders when we first
came up on the Voyager system so that we could do EDI payments. Although
it was quicker than entering the codes in by hand, it took quite a while
for the number of titles we had. There were also some problems.
