The Cataloging Department (http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/cataloging/cathome.htm), with 6 librarians, 16 staff, a computing consultant, and a Libraries Fellow, plays an important role in resource discovery and metadata initiatives, collaborating with staff throughout the Libraries. The NCSU Libraries catalogs more than 45,000 titles and 100,000 volumes each year, and has a total collection size of over 3 million volumes. The NCSU Libraries is an Enhance library within OCLC and has been an active participant in the CORC/Connexion Project, which is used to guide electronic resources through the selection process to the catalog. The Libraries will soon begin a multi-million dollar project that will co-locate Acquisitions, Cataloging, and Preservation in renovated space in the library. */Responsibilities /*The Head, Monographic Cataloging manages 7 paraprofessional staff who perform original and contributed copy cataloging. Has responsibility for hiring, training and development, evaluation, and team building. The incumbent will perform original cataloging, including description and subject analysis, of print and non-print materials (including audio, video, maps, and microforms), in a variety of languages. Supervises the cataloging of rare and special materials. Participates in the building and maintenance of the Libraries' name and subject authority files. Maintains an understanding of current issues and trends in national and international standards for organization and bibliographic control of information resources, and shares that knowledge as appropriate within the Libraries. Participates in department and library planning, serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams. NCSU Librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. At least two to three years of relevant experience, including cataloging experience. Knowledge of current cataloging and metadata issues. Ability to supervise and develop staff and to manage change. Ability to work effectively independently and in teams. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in writing.
