Our technical services department is in the process of reorganizing, and I ultimately want to give one of my paraprofessional staff members some responsibility for maintaining ejournal subscriptions and access. However, this is not a function that is being done methodically here now -- problems are dealt with as they are serendipitously discovered, but we don't have any method for systematically verifying that access is available (on an issue by issue level; of course we verify that we have access to new subscriptions, etc.). So, what procedures are you all using for this function, and what are you doing as far as having paraprofessional or professional staff do these activities? Purchasing of all journals, whether print or online, is done by someone else. We have one librarian who handles the electronic/online at the moment, but the plans seem to be that although he is doing the setup we will be doing the maintenance. I must admit this concerns me. We rarely have any free time so I am wondering how we are going to be able to add this new duty to our workflow. It may be necessary to do some duty shifting. We had actually planned on starting by now, but with our library being attached to the Divine/Faxon problem and our need to soon switch our serials checkin software has put the project on hold. --Alexis Tibor Consortium Library University of Alaska Anchorage 3211 Providence Drive Anchorage Alaska 99508 Alexis.Tibor@uaa.alaska.edu (907) 786-4627 (907) 786-6050 fax > -----Original Message----- > Date: Thu, 06 Mar 2003 11:44:00 -0500 > From: Eleanor Cook <cookei@appstate.edu> > Subject: Paraprofessional Staff working with e-journal procedures > > Dear SERIALST colleagues, > <snip> > If you have paraprofessional staff doing anything in relation to the > ordering or upkeep of e-journals, please let me know.
