Once upon a time we would solve this by getting an additional copy of
the issue, and keeping one each way.
Nowadays, I'd be tempted to get no paper copy at all, and make a link to
the electronic from both a monograph analyic entry and the serial. One
thi ng e-only does do very effectively is solve all problems of how to
shelve the item.
But if one does have the print then I would keep the set together and
make an analytical added entry. That's what they're for. My bias has
always been to keep sets togeth er and manipulate the records, not the
books.
