CORRECTION:ALCTS E.R. Discussion Group Meeting-- ALA Annual Tina Shrader 06 Jun 2003 21:01 UTC

NEW AND DIFFERENT SPEAKERS AND TOPICS!

The ALCTS Electronic Resources Discussion Group invites you to join us
for three presentations on Digital Preservation and Archiving. The
meeting will be at the Delta Chelsea Hotel, Rosetti Room, on Saturday,
June 21, 2003 from 11:30am-1:00pm.

Julie Grob of the University of Houston will take you on a brief
tour through three digital imaging projects created by Special
Collections and Archives at the University of Houston Libraries. She
will cover the nitty-gritty of setting up your own digital imaging
program for rare and unique materials. Learn about selecting materials
for digitization, deciding whether to scan or to photograph, tracking
metadata, designing a website, and promoting your finished project.

Corey Harper of the University of Oregon will explore issues involved
with digitizing a collection of glass plate negatives from the
Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation. Expect to hear
information about the technical issues of scanning and color management,
development and implementaton of a descriptive and administrative
metadata structure, and the identification of images to be archived at
higher resolution than the ones made publicly available via the internet.

Lisa Robinson of Michigan State University will explore audio digitizing
in a presentation that describes various aspects of an NSF-funded
project to digitize audio files from Michigan State University's Vincent
Voice Library. Lisa will focus on digitization standards for audio as
well as the cataloging and descriptive standards used in the project.

We look forward to three fascinating presentations followed by lively
discussion, so please join us!
