ALA Annual Program Announcement:

Library Management and Leadership: Theory Versus Practice will focus on
the intersection of library management theory with front-line
practices.  A stimulating panel of experts includes -

Dr. Beverly Lynch is Professor at the School of Information Studies,
UCLA, and a widely-published library theorist.  She received her PhD,
from the University of Wisconsin, Madison; and MS from the University of
Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests include structures of
complex organizations; organizational environments; measurement and
evaluation of library performance; libraries as organizations. Dr.
Lynch  has served as President of the American Library Association,
Chair of the ALA Committee on Accreditation, Interim President of the
Center for Research Libraries, nd Chair of the Board of Directors of the
National Information Standards Organization. She was Dean of the
Graduate School of Library and Information Science at UCLA from
1989-1994.

Dr. Camila A. Alire is Dean of Library Services at the University of New
Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  She has previously held deans'
positions at Colorado State University and the University of Colorado at
Denver.  She received her MAL from the University of Denver and her
Ed.D. from the University of Northern Colorado.
Dr. Alire's research interests are in leadership development, library
services to Latino communities, and library disaster recovery.  She has
presented workshops, presentations/speeches, etc. throughout the country
and has been active in ALA, ACRL, REFORMA, Colorado Library Association
and has held leadership positions in each association.

Thomas Kirk, Jr. has served as library director at the University of
Wisconsin Parkside, Berea College and now Library Director at Earlham
College.  He began his career as Science Librarian at Earlham College in
1965 directly after graduating from Earlham in biology. Most of his
career has been spent developing instruction programs and the
concomitant assessment of outcomes of student learning.  Tom's other
major sphere of activity has been building consortial relations and
organizations for college libraries.

The discussion will be moderated by Susan Craig, Director of the Iowa
City Public Library.

The program is scheduled for Saturday, June 21 from 8:30 - 10:00 AM in
the Civic Ballroom at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto.
