To all,

What we do here at the Kansas City Public Library is put a number of
current issue popular titles out for browsing. Criteria is based on
prior customer requests. We also have a small number out in view but in
a staff only area that can be read if an ID or library card is left with
us while they use it. This is for high demand items that 'some' people
like to take home with them. Time, Newsweek, Billboard, Ebony, etc.
All the other titles are kept in slings and the customer has to ask for
them.

I was wondering if there are many institutions out there that are
separating their popular magazines from the periodical collection. If
so, how did you decide on which titles to pull. Also, does it seem that
it's an appreciated service even if the stacks are open and access is
fairly easy anyway.

Thanks for any feedback,
