aggregator neutral record question Matt Person 11 Aug 2003 14:54 UTC

Our library uses the single record approach to cataloging.
This year I have been recataloging many titles which we have migrated
from print to online only status.

One of the changes I make in the bib record for the single print record
we use, is in MARC tag 776, subfield w, I add the OCLC number,
referencing the online electronic record for that title.

Here's my question: With the single aggregator neutral record for
electronic resources, am I correct in thinking that the OCLC numbers I
am now adding under subfield w to our single print record for a title in
MARC tag 776, may change, when the single aggregator record is created
for any particular title? Are the single aggregator neutral records
being created using the OCLC numbers from previous records, or are these
new records being given totally new OCLC numbers?

Just trying to think ahead - thanks for any comments.
Matt
