The University of Pennsylvania Library has a vacancy for an: Electronic Acquisitions Librarian Background Information: The Penn Library has a collection of over 5 million volumes, 39,000 print journal subscriptions, 4,700 electronic journals, and over 190 networked databases. Penn is a fully networked campus and is aggressively experimenting with and adopting new technology in research and teaching, including courseware support. In addition to increasing its print collections, Penn is working to build a digital library through a series of innovative projects and partnerships. Duties and Responsibilities: In conjunction with the department head, support the broad range of electronic acquisitions services offered by the Goldstein Information Processing Center (the library's technical services department). Acquire, renew and ensure availability of a wide range of electronic collection materials, review site pages for usability. Create and update bibliographic and other metadata pertaining to these resources, including information regarding the acquisition of digital information. Collaborate with cataloging units to ensure public access and record maintenance. Analyze and coordinate the development of projects and resources. Generally support the Electronic Acquisitions Department. Work within the Endeavor Voyager and Ex Libris SFX/Metalib environments. Serve as back up to the department head when necessary. Position reports to: Head of Electronic Acquisitions Qualifications: Required: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent in skills and experience. Highly desirable: Flexibility in prioritizing multiple projects in a demanding environment; Ability to problem-solve; Propensity for details; Ability to be trained in acquisitions in an online environment. Experience with spreadsheet and database technology and software, such as Excel and MS Access. Preferred: Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills; Knowledge of metadata development and applications; Knowledge of integrated library systems.
