The Head of the Monographs Department must be committed to quality service, streamlining operations, staff development, and team building. Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent advanced degree in library or information science. Minimum of 3 years progressively responsible professional experience in an academic or research library setting. Substantial experience as a cataloger in an academic library, including experience with government documents; original cataloging; strong knowledge of AACR2r, Library of Congress Rule Interpretations, Library of Congress classification and subject heading schemes; MARC formats and the structure and function of automated bibliographic control systems; and cooperative cataloging efforts. Strong commitment to enhancing public access to library resources. Ability to supervise and develop staff and manage change in a team environment. Ability to work effectively independently and in teams. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, both orally and in writing; strong service orientation; and a commitment to professional service. Demonstrated record of ongoing professional development and contribution; scholarship; and ability to meet university promotion and tenure requirements.
