Binding questions about a few specific titles Natalie Gorvine 19 Aug 2004 15:15 UTC

Hello everyone.

Here are some questions about binding that I hope can be answered by the
good people on this list, especially those in smaller pediatric hospital
libraries:

1. What did people do about binding Current Problems in Pediatrics back
in 2001 when the publisher decided to change the title mid-volume / year
to Current Problems in Pediatric and Adolescent Health Care? Did you put
both titles on the spine or what? I have held onto the unbound issues all
this time, hoping that a brilliant inspiration would come to me about how
to proceed, but I am at a loss.

[I won't even take on the topic of why publishers make decisions like that
in the first place; I suspect that all of us working in libraries
encounter such frustrating situations from time to time, and *screaming*
at publishers via correspondence seems to be a waste of our time.]

2. What about Pediatric Surgery International, when the last issue for
vol. 19, 2003 was actually dated January 2004 rather than December 2003?
Are you putting / did you put both years on the spine? [Let's not even
try to predict whether this publisher will pull the same trick again and
establish a new pattern!]

3. Does anyone know whether an index to Pediatric Annals was published
for Volume 32, 2003? It used to be included in the December issue, and
when I sent an email inquiry about it I received no response.

I realize that some major journals (e.g., Science, BMJ, NEJM) in recent
years have had an index with online access only - and I can appreciate
that doing so saves some money for the publishers, while others no longer
put out an index at all, but it's nice when at least they let us know
about changes they have instituted.

Please respond to me directly. I can summarize for the list if there is
interest. Thanks in advance for any insight or advice that you can offer.

Sincerely,
Natalie Gorvine
