Electronic Resources Cataloger MU Libraries University of Missouri - Columbia General Overview: The University of Missouri-Columbia Libraries is seeking energetic, qualified applicants for the position of Electronic Resources Cataloger. Responsibilities include original and copy cataloging of electronic resources and continuing resources (emphasis on online media), and may include cataloging of other media. In addition, a person in this position will be expected to learn and apply knowledge of non-MARC metadata schemes and crosswalks to electronic/digital projects as they develop. A successful candidate must be self-motivated, have strong analytical and problem solving skills, and be able to think critically, deal with constant change, and work well independently and collaboratively. Preference will be given to candidates with the strongest combination of these additional qualifications: * Experience cataloging electronic resources, serials, and/or other media materials * Course work or evidence of continuing education in relevant cataloging and/or metadata activities * A record of professional accomplishment, (e.g. involvement in professional organizations, university service, publication) * Experience using OCLC and Innovative Interfaces software * Proven ability to work productively and collaboratively with colleagues and others * Knowledge of, experience using, and/or ability to interpret and adapt metadata schemes, such as Dublin Core, to local purposes * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Demonstrated knowledge of Anglo American Cataloging Rules, Library of Congress subject headings and classification, and the MARC21 format * Experience with digitizing projects and awareness of national standards and best practice for digitizing * The ability to conduct self directed study * Familiarity with, detailed knowledge of, or willingness to learn, mark-up languages (XML, SGML, HTML) * Knowledge of one or more European foreign languages Setting: The University of Missouri-Columbia (MU was established in Columbia in 1839. Compensation: Salary and rank are negotiable and competitive with excellent benefits through the University of Missouri. This is a non-tenured position with the rank of Librarian I, II, or III, depending on qualifications and experience.
