NIH Proposal Susan Zappen 01 Oct 2004 14:33 UTC

The National Institutes of Health is proposing to require researchers
funded by NIH to make their results available to the public without charge
in PubMed. If you go to http://www.nih.gov and click on Public Access
under the heading, Medical Research Issues, you will be able to read their
proposal and send your comments to them. The NIH is accepting comments for
60 days (from September 3). Please express your concerns and opinions.

The mission of the National Institutes of Health is to improve the health
of all Americans. Their proposal has an obvious benefit for medical and
academic libraries who are struggling to pay for STM journals. But every
citizen benefits from this proposal by having free access to recent
medical research.
